It will hit stores in 2020,Ĭolette founder Andelman, a longtime chamption of Redman's work, has collaborated with him on his IKEA line, which spotlights his popular character Darcel Disappoints alongside a cheerful, color pattern, Tuileries, which references Colette's Parisian roots. The collection ranges from furniture to pillows, rugs, and tabletop, many in materials that are new for IKEA.

Working with the African creative company, IKEA enlisted ten designers and artists from across the continent to partner with its in-house designers on a line that bridges cultural divides through the shared concept of modern urban living. Says Engman, “It’s meant for young people, to get them interested in the home.” Titled Markerad, the line features several conceptual riffs on home decor. The collaboration that's been most heavily teased is that with Off-White founder (and Kanye West pal) Abloh. “When it comes to smell, you need to consider the unique facets of how people experience it," Gorham explains. Between now and then, Gorham and the IKEA team will conduct research and testing. Working with Byredo founder Ben Gorham, the company will develop a line of home fragrances, set to launch in 2020. In Osynlig (Swedish for "invisible,") IKEA will explore something far outside its design-focused norm: scent. "And we're the guinea pigs, so we'll see how it goes!" "It's something that's between architecture and furniture," Engman explains. "At IKEA, we're constantly changing and building for the future, so we thought, Why don't we build something that's ever-changing?" Working with German designer Stefan Diez, IKEA will overhaul its own offices to create a more changeable, flexible workspace. This is what we want to explore with Saint Heron.” "At IKEA we are curious about the creative space in between architecture, design, art and music and how that could come alive in the homes of the many people. "”Contemporary art is a huge part of people’s life today," Engman explains. The collaboration aims to bridge the gap between art and design. "We want to explore that."Īlongside multidisciplinary cultural company Saint Heron, founded by Solange Knowles, IKEA will "explore architectural and design objects with multifunctional use," says Engman. "People are exercising in the home, and that's interesting," says Engman. We're both brands that love to collaborate." Together, the brands plan to look into sports in the home and find how they can better support them.

Though it may seem like an unexpected partnership for a furniture company, this partnership was a while coming, "We've had our ideas on Adidas for awhile," Engman says. It's about getting people to understand these problems and to ask, 'What can I do to take a more active step?'" "I think the democratic idea of IKEA will be really great for bringing the idea of Little Sun to the IKEA audience.
SWEET HOME 3D IKEA HOW TO
"Obviously IKEA knows how to get things done," says Eliasson. With IKEA, Little Sun will produce a range of solar products and also look to develop further projects involving solar power and water consumption. "We can't just say, 'We've figured it out for ourselves and they haven't, too bad,'" the artist says. One in every seven people-one billion people-have no access to electricity." As Eliasson sees it, coming up with sustainable solutions to electricity use is a global responsibility. "What would it feel like if we didn't have it? We couldn't cook or read. "We're all sitting here consuming power," says Eliasson, walking onstage in a dark room holding a Little Sun lamp.

In keeping with its values of sustainability and democratic design, IKEA is partnering with Olafur Eliasson and his company Little Sun, which provides solar-powered lights to people without access to electricity.
